Kids Cavern ceases trading following Frasers buyout

Kids Cavern was part of 14 businesses Frasers acquired from JD in December 2022, which also included Tessuti, Base Childrenswear, Choice, Clothingsites, Cricket, Giulio, Missy Empire, Nicholas Deakins, Pretty Green, Scotts, Watch Shop and Topgrade Sportswear (including Get the Label).

Founded in 1989 by husband-and-wife duo Danny and Tracey Shelvey, the designer kidswear retailer currently operates five stores in Liverpool, Kirkby, Manchester, Glasgow and Newcastle.

Drapers understands that its Liverpool, Manchester and Newcastle stores will be brought under the umbrella of Flannels Junior in the coming months while the other two locations will be closed permanently.

Kids Cavern said on its website: "Thank you for the last 34 years of your support and dedication to our brand. From a small family business to opening five flagship stores we would like to take the opportunity to say thank you for all your custom and loyalty throughout the years.

"Unfortunately, the Kids Cavern website will no longer be operating so we would like to share with you that our long journey will be coming to an end. It is truly an end of an era and we couldn't have done it without all your support."

It comes after Drapers revealed last month that Base Childrenswear, Choice and Giulio are forced to close in a rebrand to Frasers Group fascia Flannels.

Base Childrenswear will be rebranded as Frasers Group fascia Flannels Junior in the coming months, while Choice and Giulio will be brought under the umbrella of Flannels.

Frasers Group did not respond to Drapers' request for comment.
